ShoreTel Mobility helps HP customers take UC on the road

Written By: admin - Nov• 30•11

ShoreTel (Nasdaq: SHOR) has become part of Hewlett Packard’s (NYSE: HPQ) mobile convergence solutions portfolio, with HP reselling ShoreTel Mobility, which integrates leading smartphones and tablets with leading IP PBX systems.

Addressing bring-your-own-device (BYOD) issues has become a major headache for IT departments. In October, ShoreTel updated its ShoreTel Mobility platform to enable corporate communication applications on employee-owned smartphones and tablets, while at the same time separating the personal and business identities on a single mobile device. The bring-your-own device (BYOD) solution helps reduce costs and IT department load, while allowing employees and contractors a greater range of device selections.

“We see this as a big issue for enterprises, in addition to the efficiency and productivity benefits that mobile devices bring,” said Steve Blood, VP of research at Gartner. “Enterprises should look to a solution that supports a broad range of leading smartphones and tablets, as the devices being used at work are not always company owned. Enterprises will prefer a solution that is part of their existing IP PBX and UC system or works with the existing system therefore avoiding upgrades or replacement of their existing infrastructure.”

ShoreTel said that adding its solution to HP’s mobility UC portfolio will enable HP customers to extend full UC and cost-saving calling capabilities to their mobile workforces.

“IP telephony, unified communications and smartphones are transforming how and where we work,” said Mark Arman, vice president of business development at ShoreTel. “With the support of our expanding base of partners, ShoreTel sees tremendous opportunity in the coming year to strengthen our position as the fastest-growing and top-three player in the U.S. and worldwide IP markets.”

The ShoreTel Mobility solution provides the unified communications infrastructure to extend a user’s desk phone and laptop and expands the functionality to their smartphone.
